Running your own business should create freedom. But most entrepreneurs stay stuck in one place, living within a few miles of where they grew up. They dream of exploring the world while their empire grows but never make the leap. They don’t realize their dream is closer than they think. It just takes planning and smart execution.

I’ve lived in 35 cities over the past 10 years, and each one feels like home. After selling my social media agency in 2021, I travel full-time while running my new business. Along the way, I made every mistake, figured out what works, and now I’m sharing the blueprint.

Here’s how to make your business location independent and see more of the world.

The Smart Way To Run Your Business From Anywhere

Think Beyond Your Geography

What are the chances the best place for you to set up is within two miles of your high school? Almost zero. Most entrepreneurs limit their options before they start. But the world is bigger than your bubble, and opportunities exist everywhere. Outdoorsy people are stuck in cities. People who thrive on culture are settling down in the countryside. Madness.

Pick places that match your values and interests. Search for cities with thriving entrepreneur communities. Look for countries where your skills are in demand. Even moving to a new city in your own country can unlock fresh energy and ideas. Visualize your perfect life, then find locations where that life makes sense.

Embrace Async Working

Calls with clients don’t need to happen in real-time. Video messages work better than constant meetings. Stop hopping on Zoom whenever someone asks. Access new levels of deep work by channeling inspiration from your surroundings. Train your team and clients on how to work with you. Test some boundaries to free up your schedule.

Record updates instead of arranging meetings. Send voice notes instead of booking calls. Build systems that work while you sleep. The fewer live commitments you have, the more freedom you’ll find to explore. And your clients will thank you for efficiency.

Involve Your Clients

Tell your clients where you’re going and what excites you about it. Share updates about your travels and invite them to visit. Your client work benefits from your new, wider perspective and supercharged personal development. Channel your enthusiasm into their projects. Let them experience working with the happier, healthier version of you.

Clients buy into you as much as your service. When you’re excited about life, your work gets better. When you’re living your perfect repeatable day, you attract dream clients. Keep them in the loop and watch relationships grow stronger through your adventures.

Prioritize Your Workspace

Digital nomads don’t work from hammocks on beaches. That’s Instagram nonsense. You need a proper setup to deliver great work. Find accommodation with a dedicated desk, ideally separate from your bedroom. Or live next to a coworking space with private rooms you can book.

Your work matters more when you’re away. Don’t hunch over low tables with bad lighting in noisy cafes with subpar coffee and wifi. Pay extra for the right setup. Premium spaces mean premium output. Invest in your environment so you can keep standards high wherever you land.

Spend Extra To Maximize Work

Get your VA to order you a local SIM card and bring your router in your bag. Book business class flights when you can. Choose the fastest option, not the cheapest. Time is money and discomfort costs more than you think. Smart spending unlocks better work, plus the air is better at the front of the plane.

Your ability to focus determines your income. Make decisions based on productivity, not price. First class lounges mean better wifi and space to think. Proper equipment means faster progress. Stop being cheap with the tools you need to succeed. You’re better than that.
