As a content creator using ChatGPT daily and weekly, I’ve seen its positive impact on my business and social media channels. As I’ve chatted with other content creators and influencer friends, it seems like there’s a split of creators not yet experimenting with AI tools and a handful of content creators who are all in.
Let’s break down what is ChatGPT and how to get started with using ChatGPT as a content creator:
OpenAI founded and launched ChatGPT in 2022. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence tool that helps users generate text-based content. ChatGPT can also help users code, write content, and answer questions. There is a free version and a paid version.
How Does ChatGPT Work?
Users can access ChatGPT on the OpenAI website. Typically, a user will enter a prompt or a question. A prompt is a text input – a question, instruction, or query. For content creators, prompts might look like:
- “Help me brainstorm podcast episodes for next month…”
- “Can you show me a few examples of structuring my email newsletter?”
- “Can you give me feedback on my blog post?”
What Are Some Limitations To ChatGPT?
ChatGPT can’t truly create original ideas. Because this AI tool draws from existing knowledge and history and recognizes patterns, it doesn’t develop brand-new concepts. ChatGPT also can’t replace your unique voice and perspective. While ChatGPT does respond conversationally, the AI-generated responses can sound generic.
According to OpenAI, ChatGPT may sometimes write and respond with nonsensical answers. While this AI tool has access to vast knowledge, it doesn’t have all the sources. ChatGPT may not be able to answer hyper-niche or specific questions.
How Might Content Creators And Influencers Use ChatGPT Today?
Streamline your workflow: ChatGPT can break down and streamline processes. It can also help you schedule your content ideas and give you ideas on how to break up your week.
Brainstorm ideas: Whether you’re looking for a signature series on TikTok or want to dive into a specific topic on YouTube, ChatGPT can help you generate social media content ideas, hooks, themes, and series.
Jumpstart your writing process: ChatGPT can help you outline ideas, draft captions, and even brand pitch emails.
How Can You Get The Most Out Of ChatGPT?
No matter your niche or platform, one of the best ways to get accurate and relevant answers from ChatGPT is to be specific about your prompts (inputs, questions, requests).
Be clear and specific about what you want ChatGPT to do. The more specific you are in your prompt, the more exact your response from ChatGPT will be. For example, as a content creator, you could ask, “What are a few TikTok hooks I could use for my next video?”.
Instead, you could revise your input and ask: “I’ve created a video about [x,y, and z], and I’m trying to connect with my [niche or location-based] audience. What hook would work well for TikTok?”
Provide as much context as you can to ChatGPT. This AI tool uses all the information you’ve shared to give you the most relevant answer. Context might look like sharing background information about who you are, who your target audience is, and the goals you’re trying to achieve.
Another way to get the most relevant responses from ChatGPT is to use role-play. You can set up the situation to get feedback or answers. For content creators, you can use ChatGPT as your target audience and ask what content they want to see next.
How Should You Approach ChatGPT?
There is a lot of fear around AI tools and replacing human beings in various industries. In 2025, it’s essential to remember that AI tools are tools. ChatGPT is a great starting point, but you, as the content creator, oversee the final product. ChatGPT can work well as a research assistant that can help you work faster and make decisions quicker. However, the content of ChatGPT is not a substitute for all of your original work.
For example, I’ve used ChatGPT to help me create hooks for TikTok videos. While I might use the hook, I’m still the one deciding which Seattle locations to include and which clips are the most eye-catching for my audience.
